Glandulicactus uncinatus ssp. wrightii

This hardy denizen of the Chihuahuan Desert has fishhook-like spines which grow very long and are curved at the tips. Its russet red flowers emerge in early spring. G. wrightii has a wide range but is not particularly numerous in any one location. It is often found growing in clumps of tall grass where it is perfectly camouflaged. It is not difficult to grow if a gritty, mostly mineral soil mix is used. Water regularly in summer when soil has dried.
