These are mature flowering plants that originate from Pecos County in West Texas. Each stem has its own root.
The plants you see in the picture are the ones you will receive. Echinocereus dasyacanthus is commonly known as Texas rainbow cactus because of the subtle rings or bands of contrasting colors along the stem of the plant. Not all Texas rainbow cacti have the "rainbow" coloration on their stems. Some may have dark, rust-colored spines and others my be completely covered with cream to beige colored spines.
It is a relatively rapidly growing and easily flowering species that will make clumps given the best conditions. It likes very porous standard cactus mix soil, but can become too elongated if compost is too rich. Use a pot with good drainage.
Water regularly from spring to autumn, but do not overwater. Feed with a high potassium fertilizer in summer.
Keep dry in winter. E. dasyacanthus is very cold hardy to -10 C °, or less for short periods.
